50g ball of DK for Colour A & 50g ball of DK for Colour B
A pair of 4mm knitting needles forTea Cosy
A pair of 3.25mm knitting needles for Egg Cosy.
A 4mm crochet hook.
Measurments
The pattern is based on a 61/2 inch high by 16 inch at lower edge circumference pot.
The Egg Cosy is 3inches in height and 6 inches in lower edge circumference.
Abbreviations
k, knit ; p, purl ; st, stitch ; sts, stitches ; rep , repeat ; tog, together ; sl, slip ; psso, pass slipped stitch over.
Tea Cosy
With A cast on 102 sts and k one row.
2nd row : join B and k the first st with both colours, * using A k10 sts, take B pull up and k10 sts, rep from * to last st, k with both colours.
3rd row : sl the first st, * take B k10 sts keeping A yarn to front of work, then bring B to front and take A behind, k10 in A, rep from * to last st, k with both colours.
Continue as now set, always slipping the first st on the row, until 48 rows (24 ridges) have been worked with two colours.
Shaping the top.
1st row : sl the first st, *sl1, k1, psso, k6, k2tog, rep from * to last st, k with both colours.
2nd row : sl first st, *sl1, k1, psso, k4, k2tog, rep from * to last st, k with both colours.
3rd row : sl first st, *sl1, k1, psso, k2, k2tog, rep from * to last st, k with both colours.
4th row : sl first st, *sl1, k1, psso, k2tog, rep from * to last st, k with both colours.
5th row : sl first st, * k2tog across row to last st, k with both colours.
Cut both yarns approx 30cm from needles. Tread both colours into a sewing up needle and tread through all stitches removing them from the knitting needle. Pull up and fasten off, leave excess yarn for sewing up.
Make another piece in same way. Sew the two pieces together on the wrong side, leaving holes for handle and spout.
With crochet hook and both colours *make 12 chain, sl st into first chain, rep from * 3 more times (4 chain loops).
Break off yarn with enough to secure to Tea Cosy. Insert the ends through the hole in the top of Tea Cosy and secure inside.
Egg Cosy
With A cast on 74 sts and k one row.
2nd row : join B and k the first st with both colours, * using A k6 sts, take B pull up and k6 sts, rep from * to last st, k with both colours.
3rd row : sl the first st, * take B k6 sts keeping A yarn to front of work, then bring B to front and take A behind, k6 in A, rep from * to last st, k with both colours.
Continue as now set, always slipping the first st on the row, until 26 rows (13 ridges) have been worked with two colours.
Shaping the top.
1st row : sl the first st, *sl1, k1, psso, k2, k2tog, rep from * to last st, k with both colours.
2nd row : sl first st, *sl1, k1, psso, k1, k2tog, rep from * to last st, k with both colours.
3rd row : sl first st, * k2tog across row to last st, k with both colours. Cut both yarns approx 15cm from needles.
Tread both colours into a sewing up needle and tread through all stitches removing them from the knitting needle. Pull up and fasten, sew edges together.
With crochet hook and both colours *make 6 chain, sl st into first chain, rep from * 2 more times (3 chain loops). Break off yarn with enough to secure to Egg Cosy. Insert the ends through the hole in the top of Egg Cosy and secure inside
