Abbreviations
K - Knit, P - Purl, sts - Stitches
Cast on Tear Drop
Apart from the split section the scarf is knitted in garter stitch, all rows are knit.
Cast on 3 sts.
Row 1 - K. 3 sts
Next Row - Slip 1, increase in next stitch, K to end.
Repeat this row until you have 34 stitches on the needle.
Knit over the 34 stitches in garter stitch, until you have worked 3 inches/7.5 cm. You may find it useful to place a marker at the beginning of this row to help you measure the 3 inches/7.5 cm.
The Split
Split the 34 stitches by K. 1, slip next stitch onto the stitch holder, repeat this over the 34 sts.
You should have 17 sts on the knitting needle and 17 sts on the stitch holder.
You now need to work 2 inches/5 cm. This can be in Rib, Moss Stitch, or other stitch design you wish.
Once you have worked the 2 inches/5 cm you need to transfer the stitches from the stitch holder to the empty knitting needle, and place the 2 inches/5 cm section onto the stitch holder. Break the yarn leaving enough to sew in. You will now need to work the 2 inches/5 cm again on these 17 sts.
Make sure that when you finish the second section you have the open end of the stitch holder and the point of the knitting needle with the stitches together.
Rib Stitch
Row 1 - K1, P1 across row.
Row 2 - P1, K1 across row.
Repeat these 2 rows.
Moss Stitch
Every Row - K1, P1 across row.
Neck Section
Bringing all 34 sts back together. K1 from knitting needle, K1 from stitch holder, repeat this until all 34 sts are back on knitting needle.
Continue in garter stitch until work measures 12 inches/30.5 cm from split closing.
The Split
Working as before, split the stitches and work the two sections.
Cast Off Tear Drop
Bring all 34 sts back together as before for the neck section.
Work in garter stitch for 3 inches.
Casting off Row - Slip 1, K2 together, K to end.
Repeat this row until 3 sts remain.
